Unpretty Backstory

December 31st, 2023 

    You may be reading this thinking why unpretty? What’s the meaning behind our company? Or ‘why did you decide to choose that name’? So here’s a little back story on our brand!

     Unpretty was founded in December of 2023 by Angeline who felt never really felt pretty for practically all of her life.

     Growing up high school was especially the worst for me as I battled with consistent acne breakouts. Dealing with acne really affected the relationships with myself and those around me. Being so young with so little money I tried all of the diy skin-care remedies, changing my diet, even going to the dermatologist yet nothing seemed to combat the problem. As my acne got worse, so did my self confidence.

   
      I felt led to create a brand that a lot of young girls may relate to. For the girls who may be dealing with insecurities. For the girls who were told they were “too tall” or “too skinny.” For the girls who were treated bad because of their looks.

    Unpretty is for the dark skin women who are constantly masculinized for their features. Unpretty is for the girls who don’t benefit from pretty privilege. Unpretty is for all of the girls who are beautiful but haven’t discovered their worth. Unpretty is for the girls who were never the “first choice.” Unpretty is for the girls who are still learning to love themselves unconditionally, raw and true. Unpretty is For Every Girl Worldwide!

     
     Unpretty is unlearning to relearn all of the lies we were conditioned by society (or ourselves) into believing about ourselves. Unpretty is realizing that you are in fact beautiful just the way you were made and it’s when you discover that, that it holds the most power. Unpretty is knowing that you’re more than just your flesh that roams this earth, as long as you are beautiful within that will radiate and be far more important than what is perceived on the outside. 

    Unpretty is more than just a brand, it’s a statement! 

    When you wear Unpretty it’s a call to action. When you wear Unpretty from that moment we pray that you are no longer bound by the insecurities placed upon you. When you wear Unpretty you are choosing to no longer idolize beauty.

   So I say all of this to say… 

   This is more than just a brand. This is more than just a piece of clothing. This is personal for me. This is personal for you. This is personal for all of us.

 
    This is not an easy journey. Some days may be better than others. But if you take anything from my brand.. know that you were fearfully and wonderfully made. God was intentional when He created you. You were made with love.
